Concrete Surface Preparation Solutions

Anytime you install a new industrial or commercial flooring system over existing infrastructure, all surfaces need to be adequately prepared to ensure a lasting bond between existing materials and the new flooring materials. Existing surfaces must be smooth, flat, and clean to maximize bond strength and long-term reliability. Additionally, residual materials such as carpet glue, tile mastic, or epoxy paint may be left over from when an older floor was removed. These all must be meticulously removed before installing a new concrete or epoxy resinous floor.

Our team uses high-efficiency equipment, including both 32- and 44-inch machines, to remove old coatings and properly prepare your floors for a new coating. Depending on project requirements, the surface preparation phase is generally a one- or two-step process.

Minor Floor Preparation Projects

For coatings that are over ⅛-inch thick, we perform a single pass with a shaver to leave a rough profile the new coating can “bite” into. For projects that require a finer finish prior to installation, we can also use planetary grinders to remove materials, while simultaneously flattening the floor surface.

Major Floor Preparation Projects

Some flooring projects require large-stock removal to install a new flooring system so it aligns with adjacent flooring. For example, terrazzo generally requires removing ¾-inch of concrete stock when installing in an existing building. Ardor Solutions is also equipped to handle these larger projects that require more extensive preparation.
